Sarangani, as a province, is more widely known because it is the hometown of the Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and is next to the Tuna Capital of the Philippines.
But little do people know that Sarangani province is named after its bay – Sarangani Bay.
The province is situated as the country’s major gateway to the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-the Philippines - East Asean Growth Area. With its proximity to its regional counterparts, Sarangani is in a unique position to marshal its resources, entice tourists and investors, and compete in an international market under a borderless trade regime.
And did I mention that I am also a proud local and Ilokano from Maitum? Yes, you could trace my roots there for my father and my grandparents came from this beautiful place. I guess it is also evident that its people is as beautiful as the place.
Its rich history as well as astounding archeological finds, blended with some of the Philippines’ best beaches, waterfalls, distinct biodiversity, mountain ranges, crystal clear rivers make Maitum truly a gem of the Celebes.
